Deployment teams, please find my quick notes (the following memo is not really a blog post :-)) on this subject. Thank you Bernie for explaining the nandblast method to upgrade XO-1 machines.
1. The main difference between the regular upgrade process and nandblasting is that the latter can be done in parallel on any number of laptops as long as you can put them within 3 meters from the source.
2. The lead time for the nandblast process is 10 minutes. So, it is slower than a USB drive if we plan to update 2-3 XOs.
3. Nandblasting does not work with the q2e42 hardware and on the XO-1.5 at this juncture.
The steps for nandblasting unlocked XOs are -
1. Create a USB stick with fs.zip and fs.img for the build you want to broadcast (fs.img is actually the osNNN.img renamed);
2. Boot to the "ok" prompt (press ESC at boot);
3. Type:
d# 50 to redundancy nb-secure
4. Turn on all laptops to be updated holding the 4 game keys;
5. Sit back and enjoy :-)
